Noah Kadner, Virtual Producer - September 13, 2023

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the iconic GMC HUMMER EV, known for its electrifying performance on the road, is making waves both in the gaming and virtual production realms.

The GMC HUMMER EV is no stranger to making an impact. It first took the world by storm as the world’s first all-electric supertruck. Now, it’s electrifying the gaming world.

Call of Duty, renowned for its cutting-edge gaming experiences, features the GMC HUMMER EV Pickup in two major releases: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. This marks the first time an all-electric vehicle has been introduced into the Call of Duty franchise, taking players on an electrifying ride.

Gaming In the Mix

Director Allen Colombo, in collaboration with Artifact Studios LA, has also harnessed the GMC HUMMER EV’s power for a virtual city experience. This project, created for Activision as part of the Call of Duty League broadcast package, showcases the seamless fusion of live-action and 3D animation. Shot on the cutting-edge virtual production stages at Orbital Studios in Los Angeles, the team’s custom pipeline ensured visual consistency from concept to final delivery, using photoreal assets throughout.

Even projects that have nothing to do with virtual production greatly benefit from these innovations because it gives filmmakers the power to generate photoreal pre-visualizations of any creative. It’s a new aesthetic that does away with distinctions between live-action, visual effects, and 3D animation. It’s all one thing.
